The Canada Community-Building Fund supports infrastructure projects across the Yukon
June 19, 2025
The Government of Yukon-administered Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) has supported over $9.4 million worth of infrastructure projects across the Yukon since December 2024. The CCBF is a permanent source of infrastructure funding for Yukon First Nations, municipalities and unincorporated communities. Recipients are allocated a certain amount each year and determine how they want to spend CCBF money to ensure the fund supports their priorities. These projects can include recreation, bridges and roads, wastewater, drinking water and other infrastructure. The CCBF comes from the Government of Canada and is administered by the Government of Yukon, which assists recipients by managing the fund. The following are highlights from the recently accepted CCBF projects:
  • Ross River Dena Council – The Community Remediation Project will see the remediation of seven contaminated sites. This includes the demolition of four houses and temporarily moving three. Contaminated soil will be tested and transported to a land treatment facility.
  • City of Whitehorse – The Whistle Bend Community Outdoor Rink project will see the design and construction of an outdoor rink which will be a basketball court in the summer months. This is part of the Whistle Bend Phase 6 accessible park with a playground, picnic area and open field spaces.
  • Town of Watson Lake – The Wye Lake Trail Enhancement project will see upgrades to the trail system. This includes the installation of a compact surface, new benches, wheelchair accessible seating, new signage, bike racks and garbage and recycling cans.
  • City of Dawson – The Art and Margaret Fry Structural Upgrades project will see the replacement of wall framing and upgrades to columns, drywall and paint.
  • Old Crow – The Solid Waste Facility in Old Crow will receive an upgrade, including a new baler to process waste material. The project will reduce operating costs and risks to water quality and extend the life of the facility.
  • Other unincorporated communities – Mount Lorne, Deep Creek and Marsh Lake Solid Waste Facilities will be receiving upgrades. This project includes upgrades to access road, drainage and communications.
We’re proud to have supported over $9.4 million in priority projects for Yukoners since the end of last year. CCBF is designed to help execute projects of local importance that foster community vibrance and resilience. We will continue to deliver funding that supports a variety of needs, from site remediation to water quality improvements to creating new recreational infrastructure.
Member of Parliament for the Yukon Dr. Brendan Hanley
Our government is thrilled to be working with our federal, municipal and First Nations government partners to make our territory a place where everyone can thrive. The Canada Community-Building Fund is critical to supporting infrastructure initiatives identified as priorities by Yukon’s First Nations and municipalities. These projects are community-selected and aim to promote long-term development and wellbeing. Thank you to the Government of Canada for making this funding possible.
